Uh-oh! My unemployment benefit year has ended. I have to file a new claim. I have no idea if it will be granted and if so, at a higher or lower benefit rate. I also don’t know how many more weeks I can get unemployment. It depends on if I have a valid new claim or can only use extensions from my old claim.
What’s worse is that I totally included this week’s benefit into my budget. I need to pay my storage on the 10th! Now I don’t know if there’s going to be a delay or what will happen.
I did some reading up on U.S. unemployment laws and they totally suck. It’s totally not meant to be any kind of “welfare” benefit. It goes strictly by your employment record. And it’s easy for its laws to totally jack someone up. I experienced that first hand when I worked as a sub teacher. I was denied any benefit for two months - - zilch.
The first problem is that it goes by week and not by day. So, if you have a part-time job of 2 days a week, you’ll use up your benefit at the same rate as someone who has no job at all. What’s worse, if you work enough, either part-time or temp, you may get a LOWER rate because of it for the following year. So in a sense, you do sort of get penalized for working under unemployment. Of course, the other side of the coin is that, for the weeks you work AND get unemployment, it’s more than unemployment alone (usually, not sure about minimum wage jobs).
Whatever. It’s a sham either way you look at it. As I’ve stated before, it’s ridiculous for people who have decades of employment history to be left with $0 unemployment benefit after their term expires.
Here’s a thought, stop sending U.S. money (and jobs) overseas. The only reason the gov’t does this is to retain some sort of psychological control over the rest of the world. The king sends money far and wide and the people in the palace starve to death. Sickos
As for me, I’ve decided that 2012 is the year without stress for me. I really don’t give a shit what happens. No more stress for me. In addition, I’ve been trying to sleep for 10 hours a day. No stress and more sleep is really helping me health-wise. Apparently, at night, your body does all this stuff to heal and renew itself. This gets truncated if you only sleep 8-6 hours or less.
I’m most worried about food and supplements. I’ve run out of b-12 and Shatavari. My multi-vitamins will run out this week. I need consistent levels of these supplements in my blood to recover. Oh well.
